Volunteer Spotlight November 2014
This season, the HFF Volunteer Spotlight shines on Jen Tucholski, who has brought her indispensable media expertise to the Hance Family Foundation. Among her many tasks, Jen provides us with press support and writes letters to elected officials on behalf of the foundation. We asked her some questions, and here’s what she had to say:
How did you get involved in the Hance Family Foundation?
I first became involved with the Hance Family Foundation after moving back home to the Floral Park area in 2013. I learned from my brother that Jackie and Warren were in need of a volunteer who could help with media exposure for Beautiful Me. I was immediately taken with the great work the Foundation was doing and wanted to get involved to help in any way possible.
What do you do for HFF?
I provide press and media support to the Foundation, particularly for Beautiful Me. I also do a lot of writing in terms of letters to elected officials, pitch materials, and press releases.
What is your favorite part about HFF or volunteering at HFF?
The most important aspect of volunteering for me is helping Jackie and Warren achieve their mission of spreading Beautiful Me across the country to honor the legacy of Emma, Alyson, and Katie.
What is your background?
I’ve worked for many years in public and media relations and corporate communications. I started at CBS News right out of college and eventually obtained my master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. I worked at GCTV, providing press and media support to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in 2005-06. I also provided press and media support to the Microsoft Corporation. Later, I worked in corporate communications at CBS Inc., for the news division. I was Katie Couric’s publicist and publicist to 48 Hours Mystery and CBS primetime specials. After leaving CBS, I went to work for Jonathan Tisch, co-owner of the New York Giants, in his media company Walnut Hill Media, LLC. There, I focused on speech writing and research for Tisch’s interviews with celebrities and CEOs. Currently, I am a writer at St. John’s University in the marketing and communications division. I live in Stewart Manor with my husband, Keith, and our son, Jack.
And the standard Beautiful Me question… What is the most beautiful thing about you?
I truly care about people and genuinely want to see their success and happiness.
